Meet Colleen: The Heart Behind Colleens Captures | Colorado Photographer

A Journey Through the Lens: Capturing Love and Life with Colleens Capture

What’s your favorite part about wedding photography?

There’s an indescribable magic in wedding photography that captivates me every time. My favorite part is the pure, unfiltered emotion. From the joyous tears during the vows to the exuberant laughter on the dance floor, each moment is a precious gem. Being able to capture these fleeting emotions and preserve them forever is a luxury that I hold dear. Every wedding tells a unique love story, and I love being the storyteller.

What inspired you to be a photographer?

My journey to become the owner of Colleen's Captures photography began in my childhood, growing up near the lush landscapes of Pennsylvania. Attending a Waldorf school instilled in me a deep appreciation for art and creativity. Photography became a natural extension of that creative expression. The ability to freeze moments in time and create lasting memories for others inspired me to pursue this passion professionally. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about seeing the joy on someone’s face when they see a photo that perfectly encapsulates a special moment in their life.

Why are wedding photographers important?

Wedding photographers play a crucial role in immortalizing one of the most significant days in a couple’s life. Beyond just taking pictures, we capture the essence, the emotions, and the little details that make the day unique. These photographs become cherished memories that couples can look back on, reliving the love, laughter, and joy of their wedding day.

How long have you been a photographer?

I have been a professional photographer for over a half a decade, honing my skills and developing my unique style along the way.

Roughly how many weddings have you photographed?

I have had the honor of photographing over 200 weddings, each one a unique and beautiful celebration of love.

Do you have any secrets to help couples feel comfortable?

Absolutely! The key is to create a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. I always encourage couples to be themselves and forget about the camera. We often start with playful and candid shots to ease any nervousness. I also make it a point to get to know the couple before the big day, understanding their personalities and preferences. This familiarity helps them feel more comfortable and allows me to capture their true essence authentically. I am huge believer the energy you give out is the energy you get back.

What do you hope couples feel after seeing your photos?

I hope couples feel an overwhelming sense of joy and nostalgia when they see their photos. My goal is to evoke the same emotions they felt on their wedding day, allowing them to relive those moments with every glance. I strive to create dreamy wedding photos that are true to color, timeless, and authentic, capturing not just the events, but the emotions and the atmosphere of the day.

Do you have any advice for couples looking to hire a photographer?

When looking for a wedding photographer, it’s essential to find someone whose style resonates with you. I actually have a post Tips for Reviewing Wedding Galleries: A Photographer's Perspective which gives a lot of great advice on picking the perfect wedding photographer for you.

But in short; Look for a portfolio that reflects the kind of images you envision for your big day. Communication is key, so choose a photographer who listens to your needs and makes you feel comfortable. Remember, these photos will be your lasting memories, so invest in a photographer who can capture them beautifully and authentically.
