Capturing Fairytale Weddings at Dunafon Castle
Hello, dear readers and soon-to-be newlyweds! It's Colleen from Colleen's Captures, your go-to Colorado photographer specializing in dreamy weddings. June has arrived, and with it, the season of love, laughter, and endless clicks of my trusty shutter. This month, I have the privilege of sharing the spotlight with an enchanting venue that makes every wedding feel like a fairy tale: The Dunafon Castle.
Location; An Event Venue Like No Other
Just 15 miles west of Denver, in the stunning Bear Creek Canyon, you'll find Dunafon Castle. This unique wedding venue, less than an hour's drive from Denver, promises a magical day. Located six miles west of Morrison, CO, and four miles east of Evergreen, CO, it's perfectly placed between Idledale and Kittridge. If you’re looking for a Colorado wedding venue that blends historical charm with natural beauty, Dunafon Castle is your ideal spot!
Unveiling the Rich History of Dunafon Castle
Inspired by 13th-century Celtic castles, Dunafon Castle boasts striking turrets, meticulously crafted light fixtures, intricate tunnels, robust rock walls, and elegant arched double-paned pivot windows. Completed in 1941, Dunafon Castle stands as a testament to the visionary water engineer Marcus Wright, who embarked on its development back in 1929. Perched on a peninsula overlooking the pristine waters of Bear Creek, Wright's ingenious construction methods included a narrow gauge railroad for transporting native granite and concrete and a pioneering electrical generating facility powered by an overshoot water wheel.
Wedding Lighting at Dunafon Castle - What's it like?
At Dunafon Castle, the lighting is nothing short of magical. As the sun sets over Bear Creek Canyon, the entire venue is bathed in a warm, golden hue, creating the perfect setting for unforgettable wedding photos. However, it's worth noting that during the middle of the day, there can be a lot of harsh light. Luckily, the venue is filled with gorgeous greenery and trees, making it possible to find shady spots for portraits.
Inside the castle, the natural dim light adds to the venue's romantic ambiance, but it means your wedding photographer will need to be proficient with flash photography to capture those getting-ready moments perfectly. So, ensure your photographer has the necessary skills with flash before hiring them to make the most of Dunafon Castle’s enchanting atmosphere.
Sealed with Love; Signing the Marriage License in a Castle Wine Cellar
One of the most intimate and unique moments I captured at Dunafon Castle was the signing of the marriage license in their historic wine cellar. This secluded, romantic spot provided the perfect setting for the couple to take a quiet moment together and two of their loved ones amidst the excitement of the day. The flickering golden light reflected off the ancient stone walls, casting a warm, golden glow over the scene. The shelves lined with vintage wines added an air of timeless elegance and history, making the moment even more special. It’s these private, cherished moments that truly capture the essence of a wedding day, and Dunafon Castle offers countless such opportunities for creating unforgettable memories.
The Party of the Year
Finally, let’s talk receptions. Dunafon Castle’s stunning outdoor spaces are perfect for evening receptions under twinkling fairy lights. These settings create a magical ambiance that’s just begging to be captured on camera. From the first dance to the last laugh, every moment is a snapshot of happiness.
Final Clicks
So, here’s to weddings at Dunafon Castle—a perfect blend of beauty, history, and endless joy. As a wedding photographer, my goal is to freeze these fleeting moments into memories you can relive forever. Whether you're planning a sun-soaked ceremony by the creek or a cozy garden celebration, remember that the most beautiful photos come from the most genuine moments.
Cheers to love, laughter, and happily ever afters. Now, let’s get you married in style at the enchanting Dunafon Castle!
